Volunteer Requirements


The following are the basic requirements for becoming a Sonoma Valley High School Volunteer.

  • Make a commitment to volunteer the equivalent of one hour each week for at least one semester. (Aprrox. 16 weeks. Semester 1: Sept. - Dec. / Semester 2: Jan. - June)

  • Pass a background check against the Megan's Law database. Teacher Support Network
    will conduct the check using a photo ID you provide at the volunteer orientation.
  • Attend an Orientation given by Teacher Support Network.*
  • Sign a confidentiality agreement to protect students private information (ie: student grades, records or other personal information).
  • Depending on the role of the volunteer, fingerprinting may be necessary.

*To attend Orientation, you must bring a completed application packet which includes:

  • Volunteer Application Form (above)
  • Original Photo ID (Drivers License, Passport) to be copied by TSN.
At the Orientation you will learn more about Teacher Support Network, how we place volunteers, receive the Volunteer Handbook, and talk one-on-one with the Program Coordinator about your volunteering preferences and availability.


Position Placement

  • Initial Volunteers will be selected and placed according to the teacher needs and respective schedules.
  • Teacher Support Network (TSN) will find a volunteer position for you based on the information you provide on your Application Form in conjunction with the requests of the teacher.

Information Packet: TSN Volunteer Coordinator will give you the following information:

  • Teacher contact information & schedule
  • School Information Packet
    Includes: School Calendar, Map, Sign-In Procedure, School Rules for Students & Adults, Bell Schedule, Emergency Procedures, Adult Restrooms and Break Areas

Introductory Meeting:

  • The volunteer should attempt to meet with the teacher prior to volunteer begin date.

Volunteering Begins

  • You and your teacher work collaboratively to decide what your volunteering activities will be.

Follow-Up

  • Teacher Support Network and the Volunteer will meet and share experiences in order to improve the effectiveness of the support network.
